Sozavo terminates contract with bread supplier

As of January 1st, 2025 Stichting 1 voor 12 stopped delivering bread to children’s homes and retirement homes due to the fact that it has not received payment from the government for the past nine months. After the foundation had sent a letter to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing (Sozavo) to announce that it would no longer be able to deliver bread due to the delay in payments, the ministry informed the foundation that the contract had been terminated as of January 1st, 2025.

Louis Vismale, chairman of the foundation, deemed it regrettable that the ministry had failed to mention a reason for terminating the collaboration with him. The government explained that the foundation had received payment for delivering bread in the first semester of 2024 and that the authorization for the payment of the remaining months of 2024 was given at the end of December. It also announced that it had taken over the delivery of bread to Huize Ashiana and the  Esther Stichting.

The government will evaluate the situation to make a list of all of the private homes that also need bread. One of the options is to give these homes the tools they need to become self-sufficient with regards to their food supply. The people who work at these homes will reportedly receive special training so that they can start baking bread for the residents.

Vismale made it clear that he never wanted to end the collaboration but that he had simply requested payment because his funds were depleted. He also made it clear that if necessary he will take legal action to make sure that he receives payment.
