WANICA – When the bikers from a special police unit showed up at Schotelweg in Lelydorp to end an illegal e-bike street race, they also came across something unexpected.

As it turns out a 10-year-old boy also participated in the illegal street race. The police unit which reportedly responded to a call about multiple youths racing through the streets in their e-bikes impounded 24 e-bikes during the raid. The youths failed to realize that they were not only endangering their own lives but also the lives of other people. The police officers expressed grave concern regarding the fact that young children participated in an illegal street race. When the Bikers’ Unit from the police showed up, the racers tried to flee the scene at topmspeed on their e-bikes but the police managed to cut them off near the Lelydorperweg. The police urge parents and guardians to keep a close eye on their underage children and to make sure that they do not participate in street races. E-bikes offer a convenient, eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative to cars, but their increasing use highlights growing safety concerns.
