PARAMARIBO - The police recently listed 12-year-old Marino Jean-Claude Pinas from Moengo as a missing person.
The boy reportedly disappeared after he had left his home two years ago. It is believed that he is in neighboring French Guyana. His mother has repeatedly urged him to come back home but he is reluctant to comply. The disappearance of this boy once again puts the rising number of youths in Suriname in the spotlight.
When Marino was 10 years he came from French Guyana and resided in the Tjemaralaan in Moengo. Shortly afterwards he left for Paramaribo but disappeared. The police explained that the boy’s mother did not report him missing because she often heard that he was alive and living in French Guyana. But after having waited for him for two years, she finally decided to report him missing. But the tween is not the only missing youth. 16-year-old Dennely Belliot from Paramaribo went missing on April 11th, 2025. She left her home which is located in the Softbalstraat between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. and has not been seen since that day. Another 16-year-old girl namely Jamila Da Silva has also gone missing. She left her home located in the Tourtonnelaan at an unknown time on December 31st, 2024 and has not returned home since that day. But youths aren’t the only ones who have gone missing because a senior citizen has also vanished without a trace. 59-year-old Krisnadath Vishnu from Kanawapibo which is located in the Commewijne District took a taxi on June 1st, 2025 and left for the Nickerie District were he was going to take the ferry to reach neighboring Guyana but he has not been seen or heard from since that day. The police made it clear that the assistance from the public is needed to solve these cases. Tips regarding the whereabouts of Dennely Belliot and Jamila Da Silva can be shared with the Juvenile Affairs Division of the Police Force Suriname KPS via 404565 or 404756 while information about Marino Pinas and Krisnadath Vishnu can be shared with FO Oost at 355262.
