PARAMARIBO - Two police officers who are stationed at the police station that is located in the center of the inner city were suspended recently in response to the disappearance of a sum of money and gold jewelry that had been confiscated.
The disappearance of seized goods has once again placed the spotlight on the Police Force Suriname (KPS) and raised many eyebrows. Internal Affairs (OPZ) has been tasked with investigating this case. The irregularities came to light after the arrest of 50-year-old R.K. who is a jeweller and who was arrested on suspicion of swindling and embezzlement. At the time of his arrest the police not only seized huge sums of Surinamese dollars and foreign currency but also gold jewelry. During the course of the investigation the head of the Police Force Suriname found out that the confiscated money and jewelry had vanished. In order to guarantee the integrity of the investigation, the two police officers who are involved in the case were suspended. Police officials assured that more information will be shared ith the public as soon as its becomes available.
