4 arrested on assault and robbery charges

NICKERIE - Police officers of the Paradise Police Station arrested four suspects on assault and robbery charges last Sunday.

The first suspect who was arrested at a wharf located in the Van Idsingaweg was identified as 27-year-old Guyanese national SR. GE, a 36-year-old Surinamese national, and two other Guyanese nationals namely AMA and GA were arrested with assistance from a special police unit in the Fredericiweg later that day. A local resident called the police around 10:50 because a man with visible injuries was standing in front of his house. When a police unit arrived at the house of the man who had called the police, the victim, 35-year-old MD, told the police officers that he had been assaulted and robbed of his good necklace, wallet and passport. The victim also told the police that he had been taken against his will by the four assailants. He was then taken to the Emergency Room of the Mungra Medical Center in Nickerie. After a short while the police spotted and arrested the first suspect. Later that day the other three suspects were also arrested. All four suspects are currently in jail awaiting trial.
