The United States Geological Survey (USGS), however, confirmed that the epicentre was located 14 kilometres west-southwest of Narsingdi, at a depth of 10 kilometres. The sudden jolt prompted residents in many areas of Dhaka to rush outdoors in panic. The tremor lasted only a few seconds, but people evacuated homes, offices, and commercial buildings as a precautionary measure.
