GUYANA - General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, on Tuesday night said Statements of Poll (SOPs) from polling stations all across the country show the PPP winning the elections,
an achievement the party is happy about. “As you can see from those SOPs, the PPP has won the elections with a huge majority. “We’re very happy about that,” Jagdeo said in an interview with the News Room. The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) is the only body that can declare the results of elections. However, SOPs were uploaded to the body’s website as required by law and the vote count can be seen and tabulations can be made by anyone. So what do the SOPs say?
The SOPs show that the PPP/C received the highest number of votes in eight of the country’s 10 electoral districts – Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9. The newly formed We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party clinched the other two regions. Region Four, a region never won by the PPP, was a particular delight for the PPP, according to Jagdeo. “Region Four, we did extremely well. We got a huge amount of votes, the same amount as APNU and WIN combined, and it reflects a lot of the work that we did,” he said. Jagdeo also reflected on comments made before the September 1 polls that the party would lose support in Indigenous communities. The party’s wins in Regions 1, 8 and 9, indicate that the PPP worked hard, he said, noting that the party “held its own” in Region Seven. Results from most election poll statements posted online by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), show that Dr Ali and the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) have won the majority of votes. Official GECOM declarations have already begun. (newsroom.gy)
