PARAMARIBO- A 30-year-old woman, S.S., recently went to the police to press charges against her 42-year-old brother-in-law, N.J., after he had sexually assaulted her 12-year-old daughter, T.D. She told the police that the incident took place when she and her daughter visited their relatives.
While everybody was at the back of the house, N.J. was getting ready to go out to go to a local store. The father of T.D. asked her to give some money to her uncle, N.J.,who was at the front part of the house. After a while T.D. returned to the back of the house and the wife of N.J. asked her why it had taken so long to hand the money over. But T.D. did not respond and stayed quiet. The next day the wife of N.J. visited her sister,S.S., to ask T.D. what had happened the day before. T.D. finally spoke about what had happened to her. She was clearly scared and also told her mother and her aunt that she still felt pain in her upper body. The police reportedly referred the victim to the Academic Hospital Paramaribo (AZP) for a medical screening. They then tracked down the suspect before arresting him. N.J. is currently in jail awaiting trial.
