One of the most important measures is making it mandatory for the owners of car wash businesses to get registered at the SWM with their permit from the Chamber of Commerce (KKF). After the registration the SWM will inspect the water installation of the car wash. Denise Groenefelt who works at the Public Relations and Communications Department of the SWM explained that this measure is necessary to make sure that potable water is not wasted. The SWM urged the nation to be thrifty with water in order to prevent a water shortage during the summer. Besides implementing the registration requirement the SWM has also started focussing on people who have not paid several of their water bills. The SWM is also focussing on maintenance and the expansion of its network in various residential areas. Groenefelt emphasized that regular maintenance is necessary due to the fact that the network is outdated. Water pipes are often damaged when contractors and entrepreneurs start digging randomly without notifying the SWM first.
