According to a statement released by the team on Sunday, the event “marked the third instalment of the ‘Healthy Village’ series of free medical initiatives, jointly organized by Guyana’s Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, Ministry of Health, and the China Medical Team.”

The outreach was part of an ongoing effort to improve healthcare in remote communities and raise health awareness. The team noted that the initiative aims to offer residents “top-notch” medical care at no cost. During the three-hour outreach, residents of Rockstone Village received a range of medical services, including blood pressure and blood sugar testing, traditional Chinese acupuncture, and consultations for skin conditions and pediatric ailments.

At the conclusion of the event, community health worker Ms. Sophia Simon accepted a donation of medical supplies on behalf of Rockstone Village from the China Medical Team.

Deputy leader of the team, Dr. Jam Feng, highlighted the importance of these efforts, stating, “Whether at Linden Hospital Complex or in remote villages such as Rockstone, our China Medical Team is committed to collaborating with local doctors. Through diverse medical services, we aim to deepen the medical partnership between Guyana and China and enhance the health and quality of life for the people of Guyana.”

The team also reflected on their longstanding connection with Rockstone. In the statement, they shared that Rockstone Village was one of the first communities they visited after arriving in Guyana in September 2024. “Dr. Feng, and an anaesthesiology consultant at Linden Hospital Complex, shared a personal connection. Our entire team participated in the village’s annual cultural festival, engaging in rich cultural exchanges with the locals. Their warmth and hospitality left an indelible mark. We’re honoured to return as doctors to offer health consultations,” the statement read. (Kaieteur News)
