PARAMARIBO - The Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing (Sozavo) currently does not have any cleaning ladies because all of them were promoted to policy advisors shortly before the new minister came into office.
The former minister of Social Affairs and Housing, Ines Pane, who was a candidate from the ABOP and who elected to become a legislator promoted the cleaning ladies. There were many complaints about the mismanagement at Sozavo under the previous administration. Uraiqit Ramsaran (PL) who is currently a minister of the new administration was replaced by Pane. But reports indicate that the policy of Pane was not squeaky-clean. Social Affairs and Housing Minister Diana Pokie suspended Melitia Sentilia, director of Social Affairs, because there were too many indications that state funds had been misappropriated. The investigation into those irregularities is still ongoing. Meanwhile it has become clear that shortly before her exit Minister Pane promoted the cleaning ladies although they lack the necessary qualifications.
“I can tell you that I do not have any cleaning ladies because all of them were promoted to policy advisors and that is a problem”, Minister Pokie said. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing is still being screened as the new minister wants to know exactly what was left behind and what wasn’t.
