The death of the Surinamese celebrity sent shockwaves through Suriname and abroad. His relatives indicated that they have received tens of thousands of messages, pictures, movies, emails and other responses. Jay Borger Breeveld, the grandson of the late celebrity, made it clear that Borger who is widely known for his performance in Wan Pipel (1976) was more than a grandfather. “You were not only a grandfather. But you were also a cousin, a brother, a friend, an acqaintance, a teacher, an icon and a father”,said Jay who added that his grandfather was a father figure to many people within the Surinamese society. Jay will always remember the humor and charisma of his grandfather. Even during difficult moments his grandfather did not lose his sense of humor. His family therefore decided to respect his last wish which was to not only cry over his passing but to also celebrate the time he had on earth. “When I am dead you must party. Not because I am no longer around but because I was here”, said Breeveld to family.
