for teachers while it renovates the houses that are intended for teachers who are stationed at schools that are located in remote locations. It is reportedly not possible for the Ministry of Education to rent houses from landlords because they do not want to do business with the ministry over unpaid rent. “Nobody wants to rent out to the ministry because we are behind with the payments. So that is not an option,” said Minister Currie. The Ministry of Education is considering mobile homes and temporary classrooms. Minister Currie explained that “it would be too expensive to purchase mobile classrooms because they would only be needed for a short period.” The ministry is currently having additional classrooms built at several schools. The construction projects will reportedly be completed at the end of the first semester of the new school year. The ministry is still considering the mobile classrooms but wants to make sure first that they will be needed for a long period. Currie made it clear that the financial restrictions make it difficult to repair and renovate classrooms and the government’s houses for teachers. The ministry cannot address all of the problems at once and will therefore have to make difficult choices. The principals of the nation’s schools are therefore asked to make an inventory of all of the problems of their school so that it can become clear which problems must be addressed as soon as possible. The purchase of furniture and the renovation of the toilets at the schools remains a top priority. Painting the school buildings is also necessary but that can wait.
