PARAMARIBO - Dozens of students who are enrolled at Christus Koning School have been at their homes for...

over a week die to the fact that the roof of the school was blown away by strong gusts of wind last week. Last Thursday students from 11- B and the 12th grade attended classes again. Parents expressed their concern as it is still unclear when their children will be able to return to school. Several parents explained that received a donation letter via the school’s Whatsapp group. They were also informed that SRD 433.279,00 is needed to repair the roof. Parents are puzzles by the fact that the school is looking for donation because it receives enrollment fees every year. “I don’t mind giving a contribution but the school does not say if the Roman Catholic Education (RKBO) will also pitch in. Does this mean that all of the parents must raise the money that is needed to fix the roof?” asked a concerned parent. On October 14th a section of the roof of the left wing of the building which covered 8 classrooms was blown away by strong gusts of wind. Multiple classrooms currently can’t be used. Books, furniture and the ceiling could be damaged if it starts to rain. “This unexpected event is a huge setback for the school. Although everybody at the school is working hard to resume the education process, classes can’t be resumed without external help in the short term.” The RKBO, the teachers and the students from the Christus Koning School are asking the nation to lend a helping hand. An employee from the RKBO explained that the RKBO is busy looking for vacant classrooms at other schools that are located in the vicinity. It is not clear when the roof will be repaired.
