PARAMARIBO – The Arena Political Party (APP) and the Democratic Union Suriname (DUS) on Monday were a no-show at the Central Main Polling Bureau (CHS) where the lottery for a spot on the ballot was scheduled to take place.

The CHS invited all of the 14 political parties that made the cut to participate in the lottery to determine the position of their candidates on the ballot. The deputy chairwoman of the CHS, Wendy Jap-AJoe, told Times of Suriname gat all of the political parties had received an invitation but that only a few had confirmed that they would attend this event.
APP and DUS did not send any confirmation. The other twelve parties had sent their representatives. The reason for the absence of the APP and DUS is still unknown. A representative of the Independent Election Bureau (OKB) participated in the lottery on behalf of the two absent parties. After the lotter draw it was announced that the APP got the 11th spot while DUS got the 13th position.
“We can't wait for them to make up their mind about participating in the lottery draw,” saidnrrhe deputy chairwoman. In February DUS did not have all of the required documents when it showed up at the registration at the CHS. Several documents that were required were also missing when it delivered the list of candidates for parliament in March. Here is a list of the positions that the political parties got at the lottery draw: 1 BEP, 2 A20, 3 NPS, 4 ABOP, 5 DNL, 6 PVC, 7 OPTSU, 8 VHP, 9 NDP, 10 DA 91, 11 APP, 12 VLS, 13 DUS and 14 PL.
