PARAMARIBO - The Union of Assertive Unions (UvAV) appears to be on the warpath with parts of the coalition party.

ABOP by asking the president to temporarily suspend the director of the EBS, Leo Brunswijk, so that the investigation into alleged corruption can be carried out smoothly. MP Genevievre Jordan (ABOP) made it clear to the UvAV via her Facebook page that “we can also play politics.” She claimed that the request of the labor federation indicates that it has a political agenda. The legislator also made it clear to the UvAV that she could also enter the political arena.
“It seems as if the EBS is the only state company that is deliberately being targeted. When employees or unions are being incited or sent to put pressure, they should realize one thing clearly, namely that we can also play politics.” MP Jordan (ABOP) has put the ABOP on a collision course with the labor federation but the UvAV does not plan on backing down. The UvAV responded by saying that the legislator must focus on her role as representative of the people and that the interests of the people must be given priority. UvAV official Lloyd Pool brushed Jordan’s warning aside and made it clear that he does not feel intimidated. He also made it clear that it is inappropriate for a politician to interfere in the operations of a state company as the company must serve the interests of the people. Pool pointed out that the fact that the legislator is getting herself involved in this matter raises many questions as she lacks the authority. MP Jordan responded to this by making it clear via social media that she would not avoid a confrontation. “I most likely stepped on a few sensitive toes. By the way, nobody can silence me,” said MP Jordan in a recent post.
