GUYANA - The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) is poised to make history with a Region 4 victory for the first time in Guyana’s electoral history. Region 4, the most populous and politically significant region,...
encompassing Georgetown and its environs, has long been considered a PNC/APNU stronghold. However, in a striking breakthrough, the PPP/C has secured the region in the 2025 General and Regional Elections. The PPP/C is leading the polls in at least seven of Guyana’s ten administrative regions, based on statements of poll published by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM). The party, during its campaign, had continuously urged voters to support them not only nationally but regionally to ensure collective development across the country. Controlling Region 4 gives the PPP/C enhanced influence over local governance and administrative priorities in the capital region. At the 2020 elections, the party secured 80,920 votes in Region Four at the general elections and 81,279 at the regional elections. GECOM has not yet officially declared the results of Monday’s elections but INews Guyana understands that the PPP/C gained just under 50% of the votes in Region Four, while the APNU and WIN received just over 20% each.
