PARAMARIBO - Health, Welfare and Labor Minister Andre Misiekaba recently explained that the collaboration between...

the nation’s hospitals and other healthcare institutions requires improvement. He also added that there is also fragmentation within the ministry as well as a difficult work sphere which hampers integration and the implementation of an efficient policy. “There is a lot of distrust in the sector especially because of past experiences. People are used to the way the work was done back then and that has left much trauma behind at the workers and healthcare institutions,” said Minister Misiekaba who added that hesitation becomes visible when new steps to move forward are discussed. “But step by step we are on our way. It is about offering guarantees to healthcare institutions. That we say what we do and do what we say. The ultimate goal is to have a team where everyone can count on each other.” When Minister Misiekaba came into office he noticed internal tensions and a difficult work sphere. Crucial departments were not made part of the policy and workers felt left out. In order to improve the situation Minister Misiekaba talked to all of the departments separately but this took weeks. The goal was to get a clear picture of all the problems and internal conflicts. According to Minister Misiekaba, the situation is currently under control but further steps are necessary. Although the healthcare sector has the professionals and strong institutions at its disposal there is a lack of color at crucial moments. “Everybody is busy on an island.”
