PARAMARIBO – The management team at FAI was recently suspended after the results of an internal investigation indicated that there are financial irregularities.

The general director and the director of Operations have reportedly been fired. Nitesh R., director of Operations, has also been arrested. The investigation also indicated that there was a conflict of interest at multiple fronts.
“The management team did not cooperate with the screening of the financial records after the new government has come into office so we had to press charges against the general director and the Operations director,” said Agriculture, Stock Breeding and Fisheries Minister Mike Noersalim. According to the minister, there have been several violations of the anti corruption law.
Executives also received a raise but failed to follow the required procedures. In the past couple of days the workers at the FAI went on strike after management failed to pay them their salary at the end of November. They became furious when it became clear via the media that the state company has a steady in one but that management misappropriated the funds. Executives used the money from the company to buy private cars. They also sold bananas for a very low price to friends. Union Chairman Rodney Cabenda explained that in the past it was not possible for workers to sound the alarm over the irregularities.
