PARAMARIBO - The Federation of Javanism in Suriname is discontent with the current administration’s decision not to turn June 26th, the Javanese New Year (Sasi Sura), into a national holiday.
Harold Posetiko, chairman of the Federation of Javanism in Suriname, deemed the decision regrettable. He waited 23 years to make sure that the Javanese New Year would be recognized as a national holiday and in 2022 he wish finally came true. Posetiko pointed out that Pertjajah Luhur (PL) is also discontent with the current administration's. He is looking forward to working together with the next administration and discussing turning the Javanese New Year into a national holiday. “The talks with the next administration will surely be fruitful,” said Posetiko who added that the Javanese New Year is of great to the Javanese community in Suriname. “The federation will keep working hard to get the government to turn this day into a national holiday.”
