PARAMARIBO - Two experts from the Brigade de Recherche et d’Intervention BRI), a French special police unit, trained ten officers of the Judicial Intervention Team from June 2nd until June 6th.
The training took place in Paramaribo and was organized by the
Regional Security Service (SSI) of the French embassy in Suriname and Guyana. The training was aimed at strengthening the capacity for arrests that must be made on foot or from a vehicle. The participants also received a training on shooting, tactical advancement and entering closed surroundings such as houses, warehouses and stores. The training was given at a crucial time as the JIT has worked with the French gendarmerie and police in French Guiana so that French High Value Targets who are laying low in Suriname could be tracked down and arrested. JIT will put the newly acquired skills to good use out in the field so that joint operations could be executed in a more effective way.
