GUYANA - Chief Elections Officer (CEO) Vishnu Persaud said he has written to Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) asking for guarantees that there will be no power outages at tabulation centers nationwide.

He spoke during a recent stakeholder meeting with representatives of the observer missions that will monitor the elections. Still, the CEO noted that GECOM has contingency plans for power outages. "There is no requirement to use any electronic gadget to process Statements of Poll at the polling station level, so our lamps should be enough if there is a blackout. At the higher level, I’ve been in touch with the head of GPL; I’ve actually written to him, giving the locations of all tabulation sites and asking that, as far as possible, we don’t lose power. Additionally, we are arranging two standby generators at every tabulation site," he explained. (inewsguyana)
