PARAMARIBO – The government of the Republic of Suriname offered its condolences to the nation, the family and friends with the passing of former president Jules Albert Wijdenbosch.
Wijdenbosch who had served as legislator, minister, vice president and head of state passed away on April 30, 2025 at the age of 83. The former president who was active in politics for nearly 40 years and who called Bosje by the people also wrote various publications and was also active in sports. Wijdenbosch made his mark in politics as minister of Home Affairs (1985-1987), vice president (1991), president (1996-2000) and legislator (2000-2010). The government is currently making preparations to give the former head of state a state funeral.
