Six suspects were reportedly arrested at the main gate of Grassalco after security guards spotted weapons in their vehicle. The security team notified the police and two special police units namely RBTM and RRMS rushed to the scene to arrest the 4 Brazilians and 2 Surinamese nationals. The suspects who were in a blue Toyota Surf showed up at the main gate of Grassalco. When security guards inspected the vehicle, they found and seized a hunting rifle, a homemade machine gun, a handgun, bullets, gloves and masks. One of the suspects tried to flee the scene after the weapons were detected but was quickly caught. Another suspect namely SD was involved in an armed robbery that had been committed in the hinterland earlier this year and was positively recognized. All 6 suspects were arrested and charged with illegal possession of weapons. They are currently in jail awaiting trial. Investigators did not rule out that more arrests will follow. Grassalco made it clear that the additional security measures are aimed at guaranteeing the safety of its employees.
