that they can no longer count on this type of financial aid as they are being kicked out of the system without prior notice. They explained that no reason is given for this and that they also do not know how to get it back. The people who are being cut off from the purchasing power boost also complained about the lack of information. They realize that something is wrong when the money is no longer being deposited into their bank account. “We never received any letter, warning or clear explanation about this change which is why we do not know if our information was checked again, if we no longer meet the criteria or if there is another reason why we stopped the purchasing power boost.” A mother who has the same problem told Times of Suriname that she earns SRD 7,000 every month and that she desperately needed the SRD 1,800 to cover her monthly expenses. She has not received the purchasing power boost for the past three months. Although she has been to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing (Sozavo) twice she still has not received a clear answer or explanation. All of the people who no longer receive the purchasing power boost urge the government to inform them why the financial aid was stopped and how they can reapply for it. Meanwhile they will keep struggling to make ends meet.
