This week the teachers made it clear that the government has one week to meet their demands. The teachers want to get paid for working overtime. They want all of their money as a lump sum. The teachers also want the government to pay theit colleagues and part timers who were hired in October 2024. A teacher from the  Algemene Middelbare School (AMS) told Times of Suriname that the internal exams are scheduled to take place on April 8th. “The strike will not have any impact on the oral exams,” said the teacher. Students from these high schools expressed relief when they heard that the strike has been put on hold. A student from the  AMS hopes that the teachers will no longer go on strike.

“The Ministry of Education Science and Culture announced that it would pay the teachers for having worked overtime for the past six months. We hope that we will get paid for the entire period and not just for one or two months,” said a teacher.
