At Friday’s groundbreaking ceremony the initiators of the hotel that will have 85 rooms explained that it fits perfectly within the bigger picture that connects the airport, service and tourism with one another.  Shane Gummels from Legacy Properties V pointed out that the hotel is not an isolated project but that it is part of the broad vision for the airport and the development of Suriname as logistical and business junction within the Guyanas. The expected growth of the offshore sector triggered the investment in this project.  Gummels explained that from the end of 2027 until the end of  2028 a significant increase of the activities surrounding the oil and gas industry is expected. He estimated that as many as 1,500 people could require transportation from Suriname to the offshore facilities each month. That volume is deemed as a potential customer base for the new hotel. The hotel will also offer a place to stay to tourists, local guests and people who want to visit local events.
