PARAMARIBO – Marciano Hellings, chairman of the Organization of Workers at the Energy Company in Suriname (OWOS), on Wednesday explained that the management...

team at the Energy Company Suriname (EBS) still had not notified Labor Inspection that he had been fired.
“I am waiting for a phone call from that institute,” said Hellings who told Times of
Suriname that his dismissal did not come as a surprise but that he can’t take any steps until his dismissal has been filed formally. “If the employer does not file the dismissal at the Ministry of Labor within 4 days, it is not legally valid,” said Hellings who added that he has already prepared himself for the legal fight and that he has already notified the union for support. “I know the people a bit so I had my suspicions.” Hellings is waiting for the moment when he will be summoned formally so that he could give his side of the story. The EBS claimed that Marciano Hellings was fired because of something he had poster on Facebook. “Leo Brunswijk thinks that he can strike fear into the hearts of the members of the OWOS. We from the OWOS say to this clown that you will reap what you sow!” The management team at the EBS made it clear in the letter of dismissal that this statement is an insult which goes against the norms of conduct within the company and that it has seriously damaged the image of the EBS.
