PARAMARIBO - Several people who are in possession of a Moni Karta and who are entitled to receiving the purchasing power boost of SRD 1,800 every month,...

recently sounded the alarm over the fact that they haven’t received the money for the past two months. They explained that they depend on the purchasing power boost to make ends meet.
Mariska Sporkslede, a single mother with two children, explained that she earns only SRD 4,500 by working as a maid and that the purchasing power boost helps to keep them afloat. “I try to make through the entire month with SRD 1,800. I have a son with a disability and cannot work fulltime because I do not have any ody to look after my children. I work from 8 a.m. until noon from Monday through Friday. After work I go home to take care of my children,” said Sporkslede who added that the purchasing power boost has not been deposited into her bank account for the past two months. Sporkslede went to the Surinaamse Postspaarbank (SPSB) to search for answers but was referred to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing (Sozavo), but she still has not received any explanation regarding the delay in welfare payments. She hopes that a solution is found soon so that she can once again receive the money that she so desperately needs to put food on the table for her family. Another concerned mother claimed that she she had seen the purchasing power boost in her bank account, but that it was gone when she went to make a withdrawal. “I did not take it and nobody else has access to my ATM card,” said the woman who has failed a complaint at the Surinaamse Postspaarbank and Sozavo in order to get to the bottom of this. The people who have not received the purchasing power boost for the past two months want to know if they have been removed from the list of recipients and if that is indeed the case they would like to know on what grounds they were removed.
