PARAMARIBO – MP Edgar Sampie (ABOP) recently explained why he was absent at an important session that was scheduled to take place last Friday.
He claimed that he had made it clear beforehand that he would leave for the hinterland because of an emergency and that he had expected to be back in the city on Friday morning so that he could attend the session. “I tried my best to be back on time but things did not go as planned. I forgot my phone in the city which is why I could not be reached temporarily,” said MP Sampie who added that his absence was not deliberate and that it also was not sabotage. MP Sampie also denied the rumors which suggests that his absence was aimed at putting political pressure on the other coalition partners. “You hear it straight from me. I could not make it to the session due to circumstances but I take my responsibility seriously. I would like to apologize for any misunderstandings,” said MP Sampie who assured the nation that he would always attend the session of parliament. “My absence last Friday was a one-time thing.”
