PARAMARIBO – MP Dinotha Vorswijk (ABOP) who was recently installed as legislator pointed out that she returns to parliament with the experience that she gained while running the Ministry of Land and Forest Policy.
She explained that she had many insights into public administration and the complexities of the policy field where she worked. Before she became the minister of Land and Forest Management, Vorswijk was a Member of Parliament for six years and she also worked on both sides namely in the opposition and the coalition. In 2021 she made the switch from parliament to the government and ran the Ministry of Land and Forest Management for four years. Now that she has returned to parliament, she will approach things differently.
“This time the discussions will not only consist of yelling and complaining but also of proposals,” said MP Vorswijk who added that she finally realizes the challenges that policymakers face. “Sometimes legislators do not know how things work. Some of them only sit and yell here at a constant pace. It is not always the minister’s fault when the job is not done accordingly,” said MP Vorswijk who explained that a more realistic approach is needed in parliament and that she wants to take the initiative. MP Vorswijk wants to keep focusing on the nation’s land policy as she wants to finish what she started when she ran the Ministry of Land and Forest Management. She wants to make sure that the land that was allocated is made ready for construction projects.
