The suspect who has been identified as 58-year-old P.M.P. was reportedly also involved in another traffic accident earlier this year. Reports indicate that his driver’s license was revoked after he had been caught driving under the influence of alcohol and causing a traffic accident in the Magentakanaalweg. P.M.P. who surrendered himself to the police in the presence of his lawyer last Wednesday confessed to being involved in the hit-and-run in the Frederikshoopweg which claimed the life of a pedestrian. He claimed that he fled the scene out of fear. The victim died after having been admitted to the hospital. The suspect kept driving his car although his license had been revoked. He was taken into police custody and his Nissan Cube was impounded by the police. The Police Force Suriname (KPS) thanked citizens for sharing information after it had asked for assistance that could help to tlidentify and track down the perpetrator.
