soldiers and volunteers searched for 24-year-old Melvin van der Tap in the forest located behind Zanderij. On Tuesday night the teams spotted tracks which indicated that the man was still alive. Wednesday morning MP Michael Marengo and Mitchell Matroos who is a member of the Social Army announced that Van der Tap had been found alive. The Zanderij Police Station announced that the missing man emerged from the forest on his own. He was picked up by the police and taken to the RGD clinic at Zanderij before being put in an ambulance which took him to the Emergency Room of the Academic Hospital Paramaribo (AZP) where he was admitted for observation. Van der Tap was reported missing after he had a field with his mother and relatives. When they were in the field where they plant crops the young man indicated that he needed to go to the toilet and walked into the forest. Around 1 p.m. his relatives sounded the alarm when he failed to return and when they could not find him in the vicinity. Reports indicate that several hunters had also joined the search and rescue parties. The Drone Unit of the Police Force Suriname (KPS) also provided assistance.
