PARAMARIBO – The Melkcentrale Paramaribo (MCP) is currently in the spotlight over the mysterious disappearance of 3 to 4 containers of milk powder from its premises.
MCP Director Dewkoemar Sitaram confirmed that the theft came to light on August 29th during internal inspections. He pointed out that he is also puzzled by the disappearance of several containers that were filled with milk powder. After the theft had come to light, management notified the police. The storage manager was arrested by the police and fired by management. Since then tensions have been growing within the MCP that has 80 employees in its workforce. More than 30 temporarily went on strike. Management explained that the MCP has security cameras and alarm systems but explained that there are shortcomings because the security footage is only stored for 1 week which means that crucial information could no longer be available. Sitaram explained that the internal inspection made it clear that the numbers that were on paper did not match the facts. Meanwhile the MCP is facing another problem as raw milk deliveries are decreasing. The company is increasingly becoming more dependent on imported milk powder.
