
PARAMARIBO - A report that was recently presented indicates that Milk Central Paramaribo (MCP) has suffered about SRD 350 million in financial losses these last 3 years.

The irregularity came to light about 6 weeks ago after the Ministry of Agriculture, Stock Breeding and Fisheries launched an internal investigation at the MCP. In the meantime the investigation has been taken over by the detectives at the Herman E. Gooding Police Station. On November 20th a team of investigators paid another visit to the state company. Reports indicate that 12 workers were initially arrested. 1 suspect has reportedly been released. Former Director Dewkoemar Sitaram, Deputy Director of Administrative Services Dharma Hardayal and the Deputy Director of Operations, Guillamo Marlan were also arrested and have been fired on the grounds of dereliction of duty. After the irregularities had come to light a new board of directors was appointed. The new board which is chaired by Moche Atompai has already taken important steps to stabilize operations at the MCP. The workers are currently motivated and willing to work hard. About 45 percent of the local debts have been paid off. A new team of directors was appointed Friday. Atompai who temporarily chaired the board of directors has been appointed as director at the MCP.
Larissa Bardan is the new director of Operations while Ritshik Adelaar has become the new director of Administrative Services. The board of directors has a new chairperson namely Anushka Sardjoe.
