imprisonment for causing death by dangerous driving. Sukdeo, of Lancaster Village, Corentyne Berbice, reportedly killed 18-year-old Bibi Aleah Ali during an accident last year July, after he lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a crane that was parked on the road. Ali was a passenger of the car.

The accused appeared virtually before Magistrate Tuana Hardy at the Number 51 Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday, where the sentence was read. Initial investigations revealed on July 22, 2024, a motorcar with license number PAF 6330, driven by Sukdeo, was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle.

The car reportedly collided with a crane which was parked on the parapet along the western side of the road. The vehicle later ended up in a canal on the eastern side. The impact of the collision caused Ali to be ejected from the vehicle landing in the canal. The two sustained injuries and were rushed to the Anamayah Memorial Hospital and Skeldon Public Hospital respectively. Ali was pronounced dead on arrival at the Skeldon Public Hospital, while Sukdeo was admitted to the Anamayah Memorial Hospital in a critical condition, after suffering from multiple injuries.
