PARAMARIBO – Health, Wellbeing and Labor Minister Andre Misiekaba recently revealed a series of serious irregularities that have has come across within his ministry.

He explained that contracts were extended without proper authorization and that medical supplies have expired. After the irregularities had come to light, the ministry launched several investigations and frozen various contracts. A local entrepreneur recently showed up at the Health Ministry and claimed that the ministry was behind with the rent. The Health Ministry which has rented a warehouse reportedly has to pay him about €540,000 or SRD 20 million. Minister Misiekaba explained that there are no official government decisions regarding this matter. The only document that was found, dates back to two days before the general elections of May 25th, 2025 and that was personally signed by former minister Amar Ramadhin. Huge irregularities were also uncovered at the BGVS. In a storage facility that is located in the northern part of Paramaribo and which the Health Ministry pays $3,000 in rent each month, a huge batch of medical supplies was found. These medical supplies that are valued at $1.1 million or SRD 44 million were purchased by the then Health director outside the proper channels and have already expired. As it turns out the company that delivered these supplies is also actively providing supplies to the MMC and the Wanica Hospital which according to the ministry gives officials enough reasons to launch an investigation into possible structural irregularities within the healthcare sector.
