urged ministers to also help with cutting back on expenses. MP Pawiroredjo explained that not all of the ministers need a motorcade. “In my opinion that ministers maybe not all of them need a motorcade”, said the legislator who spoke about an issue that has often triggered many discussions. The previous administration that was led by President Chan Santokhi and VP Ronnie Brunswijk often triggered a tsunami of criticism because of the enormous size of the motorcades for the president and the VP. Especially the daily trips of Santokhi from his residence in Lelydorp and Paramaribo often resulted in frustration for other drivers who had to move aside to let the president and his motorcade pass with a police escort. But citizens also criticized the huge costs of the security that had to be covered. The trips of Brunswijk from the capital to Marowijne also caught the eye of the public due to the loud sirens and the enormous motorcade. Videos of these trips often made their way to social media and members of the motorcade often added comments to the videos to ridicule the people who criticized the motorcade. The size of the presidential motorcade even became a hot topic during the election campaign of 2025. The then opposition often referred to the issue to criticized the government that was led by the VHP party of the late Santokhi.
