PARAMARIBO- MP Poetini Atompai recently made it clear that police and army units must be stationed at Bergie 21 near Moeroe Creek in the Para District to keep an eye on the gold mining

activities. Gold miners set up shop there after the government and Zijin had reached an agreement but MP Atompai explained that there is a lack of structural security in that region. According to MP Atompai, there used to be police and military posts in that region but those posts eventually disappeared. The legislator from the coalition explained that the police and military must be stationed in the region to keep an eye on things together. He therefore pleads for a permanent joint station at Moeroe Creek. “Such a station is needed to prevent the situation from escalating again.”
