PARAMARIBO - “District commissioners must be given the opportunity to actually use the funds of their own district for projects of their district,” said MP Steven Reyme (A20).

The legislator from the coalition explained that the current administration must take another look at the distribution of the funds because the funds that are generated by one district are divided among multiple districts. Because of this the big earner often does not profit from his own earnings and cannot use it to finance projects. MP Reyme brought the issue under the attention of the minister of Finance while explaining that district commissioners often complain about the limited funds that are at their disposal. He pointed out that one of the DCs explained that this unfair distribution of funds creates many problems. Some of the districts generate a lot of income in the summer vacation but these funds do not flow back to the districts where they were generated. “It is my understanding that when a DC delivers money that money is divided among 10 districts. I want to ask the minister to address the issue,” said MP Reyme.
