Members of Parliament have demanded answers regarding the technical state of the buses of the National Transportation Company (NVB) and the manner in which they are inspected. MP Genevievre Jordan from the General Liberation and Development Party (ABOP) made it clear that the residents of Marowijne are entitled to reliable and safe transportation. She pointed out that the current buses cannot sufficiently guarantee the safety of passengers as problems with the brakes and steering wheels have been reported. “I am asking for good buses for the people of Marowijne because we are not transporting animals. They are people. Even animals get proper transportation”, said MP Jordan. MP Ingrid Karta-Bink (NDP) who had previously sounded the alarm over the state of the buses on the Perika-Meerzorg route also asked for a thorough inspection of the NVB buses. She wants to know if the buses actually passed the vehicle inspection in accordance with the rules and procedures. “It is shocking because I had discussed this issue two months ago”, said MP Karta-Bink.
