PARAMARIBO – The district commissioner (DC) of Nickerie, Senrita Gobardhan, recently made it clear to the political parties that erected election billboards and flags to remove them ...
within the next two weeks. The election billboards and the flags of several political parties still haven’t been removed even though the elections are over.
DC Gobardhan told Times of Suriname that she cooperated with the political parties prior to the elections by giving them permission to put up billboards and plant their flags. But now that the elections are over, the DC expects them to collect their billboards and flags. “It’s been weeks, so now it’s time to remove everything,” said the DC who added that she would take action if the parties failed to comply. DC Gobardhan explained that it would take a lot of time and energy to remove all of the billboards and flags if she would have to do it herself. It is not clear if the political parties will get rid of their billboards before the deadline.
