PARAMARIBO – “The Central Main Polling Bureau (CHS) reportedly has not received any for-mal request from political parties for a recount in multiple districts,” Wendy Jap-A-Joe, deputy chairwoman at the CHS, ...
told Times of Suriname. “The official result of the elections is not in yet. We are working as fast as we can to get all of the official reports here as soon as possible before double checking them so there is currently no reason for a recount in multiple districts. If a request of filed, the CHS will take it seriously and will determine if there are any grounds for a recount of the votes in multiple districts. At this moment the main polling stations
in the nation’s districts have to check is everything has been done correctly and if the information has been processed in the official reports. If that is not the case, the main polling station must call the people back to check everything again and to correct the mistakes. This is currently the case at the main polling station in Wanica where the workers of several polling stations were told to return because the information in the official reports does not match other information.
District Commissioner
Bholanath Narain who is also the chairman of the Main Polling Station in Wanica explained that many mistakes were detected in the official reportsnand that the ballot cards were not delivered in the correct way. The number of voters that were counted by observers did not.match the number on the official reports. Some official reports either did not even have a signature or were filled out incorrectly. “In some cases the official reports were locked in ballot boxes without the right documentation. I deemed it necessary for the workers from certain polling stations to come back and to count the votes again and to correct the mistakes,” said DC Narain who urged the people to be patient a little longer.
