PARAMARIBO - State employees who failed to show up at the registration center despite having been summoned repeatedly will no longer receive their salary from the government.

Home Affairs (BIZA) Minister Marinus Bee revealed that 2,159 state employees ignored the calls for the mandatory registration. “Only 39 people from that group actually showed up. That means that the more than 2,100 state employees will be blocked immediately. People who do not work, will not receive payment. We will apply this rule consequently,” said Minister Bee who added that by blocking these salaries, these people can be formally removed out of the system. Minister Bee explained that these people had not been active for several years. “That is unacceptable. The government cannot afford to keep paying people who do not contribute,” said Minister Bee who added that by removing these people, the government will spend less on salaries. Each state employees earns an average SRD 15,000 per month which means that the government will get to keep SRD 300 million. According to Minister Bee, many of the state employees who steered clear from the registration center currently live abroad. This is why the government opted for a physical registration instead of an online registration. The files will be compared to those at the Central for Citizen Affairs (CBB). “State employees who live abroad and who are still on the list for government wages will be blocked,” said Minister Bee.
