deem giving pay raises as the solution at the moment. President Simons explained that giving pay raises now is a big economic risk. One noticeable fact is that government officials and legislators recently received a huge pay raises but that they are not planning on scrapping it despite the tremendous pressure from the people. The head of state pointed out that her administration is willing to come up with a solution that is financially feasible. She also explained that any sudden wave of pay raises would only destablise the already vulnerable economy. “I would have liked to give thrice the money to them but it would be senseless. It would cause a crash which they would fall victim to. I never promised them it. We will do things step by step,” said President Simons in parliament of which the members recently received a huge pay raises. Each legislator currently receives more than SRD 100,000 every month. Teachers who recently held a silent march pointed out that a legislator currently earns in a month what a teacher earns in a whole year. The Simons administration wants to discuss its step by step approach with the unions. It also wants to discuss it with social groups and the private sector.
