PARAMARIBO – After being on strike for several months, the bus inspectors employed by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Tourism (TCT)...
and stationed at Ondrobon have returned to work. The strike ended following discussions between the TCT management team and the workers’ union. The inspectors had gone on strike due to the lack of sanitary facilities and because they were required to pay SRD 10 each time they needed to use the toilet.
TCT Minister Raymond Landveld acknowledged that the working conditions for the bus inspectors needed improvement. He assured that a team was actively addressing the issues so the inspectors could return to their workstations. During the strike, buses parked at Ondrobon were not inspected.
Several passengers expressed relief upon hearing that the bus inspectors had ended their strike. One of the inspectors said, “I am happy that the issues we raised will be addressed.” The inspectors also urged bus owners, permit holders, and drivers to comply with the established rules and regulations, emphasizing that drivers who deviate from their routes risk losing their permits.
