PARAMARIBO- The VHP, the biggest and only opposition party in parliament, criticized the administration of President Jennifer Simons and Vice President Gregory Rusland.

It claimed that the changes that the current administration had promised were never introduced and that the problems in the country have in fact become bigger. “After 12 months we have hardly noticed anything changes to the system. Expectations were high but very little has changed”, said MP Dew Sharman (VHP) who added that the current administration took over in a period of economic and financial stability. MP Sharman reminded parliament that the previous administration had managed to rearrange the nation’s debt. “That situation has changed”, said MP Sharman who claimed that the actual debts have been moved instead of being addressed. “The experiences of the people do not reflect any progress. The crime rate has gone up, the situation in the hinterland has worsened, foreign relations have remain stagnant and poverty is on the rise. The people are still living in uncertainty and the state debt has also risen. We keep hoping for things to get better”, said MP Sharman. MP Mahinder Jogi (VHP) also criticized the first year of the Simons-Rusland administration and asked questions regarding the number of foreign trips of the ministers before demanding an explanation. He indicated that he wanted a complete list of all of the foreign trips that the ministers have gone on in the past 12 months. “It must be made clear which ministers went abroad, why they went abroad, which results if any were achieved and how much taxpayers' money was spent on these trips”, said MP Jogi who especially criticized the minister of Economic Affairs, Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovation (EZOTI) for being abroad most of the time without it being clear that the results of those foreign missions are. “The minister of EZOTI is always abroad. We do not know what the results of his trips are. This about taxpayers' money being spent on these trips”, said MP Jogi who made this statements at a time when Minister Andrew Baasaron was abroad again.
