because they failed the state exam. They also complained that their children got good scores throughout the entire school year but were not given the green light to pass to the 11th grade because of their bad performance at the state exam. The parents strongly disapproved of this injustice.

“I plan on going to the Inspection with my daughter because I can't believe that she has to redo the 10th grade despite of her good scores at school. Is there no other option besides the resit to pass to the 11th grade?” The parents pointed out that many changes are made to the education system but that their children are the ones paying the price.

Melanie Veldboom who is a mother and a teacher made it clear that it would be better if  the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture went back to the old system where students had to achieve a certain amount of points in order to proceed to the next grade. She predicted that the ministry will soon face another problem when it has to find room for the 9th graders in the 10th grade. “I wonder how they will solve that problem,” said Veldboom who added that the current system demotivates the students who work hard an entire school year but do not get to move on to the 11th grade just because they failed the state exam. Several parents plan on going to the Ministry of Education to demand answers. They claim that the state exam was too difficult and that the things that were asked on the exam were not taught in class. The parents hope that the Education Ministry will take this problem seriously and that it will provide a solution to the students who have good scores on their report card and who would have passed to the next grade with the scores on their report card.
