PARAMARIBO - The business trips to other countries are currently a hot topic in parliament. Legislators from the opposition as well as the coalition...

want to know how many business trips have been made and what the results of these trips are. The legislators are also demanding that each minister from the Simons/Rusland government must hand in an official report upon their return from each business trip. Several ministers recently went to other countries but the goal of these trips was not always clear. The minister of Oil, Gas and Environment and Finance and Planning Minister Adelien Wijnerman recently went to Armenia to attend the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17). Vice President Gregory Rusland also went abroad, but the goal of his trip is unclear. The government could neither confirm nor debt if another minister is currently also abroad. MP Rabin Parmessar (NDP), recently pointed out that business trips would not only be announced in parliament but that ministers would also hand in reports upon their return so that parliament could find out what kind of results these trips have produced and what kind of agreements were reached. He wants the government to keep its word. MP Mahinder Jogi (VHP) who asked for more transparency also wants a list of all the number of business trips that were taken from the moment the past 18 months. Home Affairs (BIZA) Minister Marinus told parliament that “the government is waiting for instructions and correspondence from the chairman of parliament.” “As soon as the guidelines are in, the government will stick to them”, said Minister Bee.
