Police concerned about rise in juvenile delinquency

PARAMARIBO - The police officers from Regio Midden Suriname (RMS) recently revealed that there has been a noticeable increase in the number of thefts that are committed by teenagers, which - according to them - is an indication that these youths are not doing okay.

The behaviour of these teenagers is cause for concern and nothing could be said to justify their misconduct. Teenagers choose a life of crime for various reasons. Some have problems at home while others start hanging with the wrong friends or cave in when they face peer pressure. Teenagers often assume that crime will solve their problems. “There are many other solutions for their problems but choosing a life of crime is not one of them. All actions have consequences,” said the police. The police officers from RMS urge the nation’s youths to refrain from committing crimes as the things that they do could haunt them for the rest of their lives. Parents and guardians are being urged to keep a close eye on their children in order to keep them from making the wrong choices.
